Vietnam now offers a so called “e-Visa” (valid for 30 days, single entry) to 81 nationalities (Please see Contry list for Vietnam e-visa), Japan being one. This means that Japanese citizens who wants to travel to Vietnam can now apply for a Vietnam e-Visa online before leaving. This means that you do not have to go to the embassy or consulate in order to get your visa. With the online e-visa, you can do it all from the comforts of your home or from wherever you are in the world. All you need is a smartphone, tablet or computer, and stable WiFi.
The Visa on Arrival system used to be a popular way to acquire a visa because it is also done online. But nowadays, the e-Visa has become more popular because you do not have to queue for a long time, like you have to with the Visa on Arrival. You do not have to pay an additional fee upon arriving in Vietnam either. However, if you want a multiple entry visa or want to stay in Vietnam for more than 30 days, visa on arrival is the only option for you.
The answer is Japanese citizens won’t need a visa if stay for less than 15 days. A gap of at least 30 days between two visa-free visits is required. This is because they are part of the visa waiver program that allows member to travel to the country with a visa exemption scheme.

The easiest way to get one is by applying for the e-Visa before traveling. All you need to do is fill out an online application form. In the form, you need to enter basic information such as name, date of birth, nationality, as well as details from your travel documentation such as passport number, date of expiry, etc.
In addition to these details, you will also have to answer some basic security questions in order to be able to submit your Vietnam e-Visa application. These questions will cover your criminal background, health history, and further travel information. Finally, when everything has been filled out, the application will be sent to the Vietnamese authorities to be screened. After that, it should not take long until the application has been approved of and sent via email.
In order to ensure that you will not come across any problems with your e-visa, make sure to go through your application thoroughly before sending it. The application can be delayed, or even rejected, if there is something wrong in the application. Therefore, it is always good to read it thoroughly before submitting.
Once your Vietnam e-visa has been approved of and sent in a PDF format, print it out and present it at the Vietnamese border upon arrival, along with your passport.
