When you are planning a trip to Vietnam, it is important that all family members have a valid visa. If the child is 14 or under, they do not need to have their own visa but needs to be on their parents. However, if the child is more than 14 years old, it is obligatory to apply for a Vietnam visa separately.
Nationals of 81 countries can now easily obtain a Vietnam e-Visa (Country list for Vietnam e-visa). This is an electronic travel authorization that allows travelers to stay in Vietnam for up to 30 days on a single-entry visa. This means that you may only enter Vietnam once. If you wish to exit and re-enter, you must apply for a new visa. If you are not on the list of one of the 81 eligible countries, you must either go to the Vietnamese embassy or consulate and apply with them, or apply for the Visa on Arrival. Citizens of 24 countries can travel to Vietnam visa-free. Sweden, the UK, Chile, Germany and Indonesia are some of the countries on that list (Please check Vietnam visa requirement here).
The electronic visa is an easy process and the entire e-visa application takes only a few minutes to complete. The parent or legal guardian may complete the details of their child or children on their behalf. All applicants must write some basic information such as their given name, last name, date of birth, gender and country of citizenship.
If you are traveling with a minor that is 14 or under the age of 14, they can be included in the parent’s or guardian’s passport and will not have to submit an individual e-Visa application. After completing the application, the parent should indicate that they will be traveling with a minor who is included in their passport. Please note that in order to be able to apply for a Vietnam e-visa, your passport must be valid for at least six months from the expected date of arrival in Vietnam.
A photo of the minor as well as name and date of birth will be required when applying for a Vietnam e-Visa. All children over the age of 14 who has their own passport will have to submit a separate application from their parents. Parents or guardians can complete the application on their behalf. Children who are under the age of 14 with their own passport will also have to submit a separate e-Visa application.
One of the Vietnam e-Visa requirements for children is that they must have a valid passport unless they are traveling on their parent’s passport. In order to apply for the visa, applicants must have a valid email address and a debit or credit card in order to pay for the visa. The e-Visa will be sent as a PDF to the email once it has been approved of.
